The chair is the most-touched piece in a dining room; it is usually what wears out before the table. Selishome chairs are made in the same ranges as our tables and in matching fabrics.

How does a chair suit the table?
Every dining table in our catalogue is 77 cm high. For comfortable seating at that height the chair seat should be 45-47 cm high, leaving about 30 cm between the table top and the seat. If that gap narrows, legs are cramped; if it widens, you reach up to the table.

How many chairs should you buy?
Work out the everyday number of chairs from the table's CLOSED size and the number of guests from its OPEN size. A 120 cm closed table needs 4 chairs for daily use; if the same table opens to 320 cm, a table for 8-10 can be set. In most homes the right solution is to buy the everyday number of chairs and add armless extra chairs for guests.

With arms or without?
A chair with arms is more comfortable but cannot tuck fully under the table and needs more edge per person. A common arrangement is chairs with arms at the heads of the table and armless ones along the sides. In a tight dining area an armless model always seats more people.

Fabric and cleaning
The dining chair is the piece of furniture that meets stains most often. Fabrics with a wipeable surface and a tight weave are an advantage in daily use; the shorter the pile, the easier the cleaning. Matching the chair fabric to the tone of the sofa or curtains, rather than to the colour of the table top, makes the room look more coherent.
