The dining table is the most used and longest-lived piece of furniture in the home. Every table in the Selishome catalogue has an extending mechanism: small for everyday use, large when guests come.

Dining table dimensions
The closed dimensions of the tables in our catalogue range from 90x90 cm to 220x100 cm; the round models are 100x100, 110x110, 120x120 and 130x130 cm. When opened they extend to between 170 cm and 500 cm. The table height is 77 cm on every model — a standard that makes choosing chairs easier.

How many cm for how many people?
Allow 60 cm of table edge per person. On that basis a 120 cm table seats 4, 160-180 cm seats 6 and 200-220 cm seats 8. With extending tables, always plan around the OPEN dimension: a table 120x120 cm closed can reach 320 cm when opened, seating 10.

Round or rectangular?
There are 8 round models in our catalogue. Having no corners, a round table makes moving around easier in a tight space and creates a table where everyone can see everyone else; up to a diameter of 130 cm, 4-5 people sit comfortably. A rectangular table seats more people in the same area and can be placed against a wall.

How much space should be left around the table?
At least 90 cm is needed on each side of the table: 70 cm for the chair to pull back and another 20 cm to pass behind it. So a 180 cm table needs an area of at least 360x280 cm. Do not order without measuring your room.

Top material
The life of a table is decided more by the top than by the mechanism. Ceramic and porcelain tops are the most resistant surfaces to heat and scratching, and a hot pan can be put straight on them. Natural marble is the most striking but is porous; acidic liquids can leave marks. An MDF top is the best value and, cared for properly, lasts many years.
