How many does a dining table seat, and how many cm?
The practical rule is to allow 60 cm of table edge per person. On that basis:
- 4-seater table: about 120x80 cm
- 6-seater table: about 160-180x90 cm
- 8-seater table: about 200-220x100 cm
- 10-12 seater table: 260 cm and over, or an extending table
The fixed tables in our catalogue are around 170x95 cm and seat 6 comfortably. Extending tables are about 180 cm closed and go to 220 cm and over when opened; so they serve 6 in daily use and 8-10 when guests come.
Chair dimensions
The chairs in the collection are 53-55 cm wide, 57-60 cm deep and 83-87 cm high. A gap of 28-30 cm between the chair seat height and the table top gives comfortable seating.
How many square metres should a dining room be?
At least 75-80 cm of space is needed on each side of the table to pull a chair back and stand up. For a 160x90 cm table that means an area of about 310x240 cm. In dining areas joined to the living room, take the direction of circulation into account as well; leaving 100 cm on the side that lies on a walking route is more comfortable.
Units and consoles
The lower blocks of the units accompanying the sets are 209 cm wide and 45 cm deep; the upper blocks are 100 cm wide and 24 cm deep. Consoles and sideboards are used for serving sets, table linen and kitchen items used less often.
Round or rectangular?
A rectangular table works better in long, narrow rooms and a round table in square ones. On a round table the edge allowance per person is a little greater: a diameter of 130-140 cm is needed for 6 people.
