6-Seater Table Dimensions: Rectangular, Round, Oval
Short answer: a rectangular 6-seater table measures 160-180 × 90 cm, a round 6-seater is 130-140 cm in diameter and an oval one is 170-180 × 100 cm. In every shape the height is 75-78 cm. The whole calculation rests on one figure: a person needs 60 cm of table edge. Extending models have two dimensions; a 120-140 cm table that seats 4 when closed opens to 180-220 cm and seats 6.

How many cm is a rectangular 6-seater table?
A rectangle seats six in two different layouts, and that changes the length:
- 160 cm: two people on each long side and one at each end. Those at the ends may hit the legs; choose a model with a central or inset leg.
- 180 cm: three people on each long side, ends left free. This is the most comfortable layout, and adding a chair at each end turns the table into an 8-seater for guests.
Do not go below 90 cm in depth: on an 80 cm top two facing plates (40 + 40 cm) meet in the middle and leave no strip for serving dishes.
What diameter should a round 6-seater table be?
Round tables are calculated from the circumference: diameter × 3.14 ÷ 60 = number of people. So:
- 120 cm diameter: six fit but tightly; ideal for everyday use by four or five.
- 130 cm diameter: six sit comfortably. The most balanced choice in small, squarish rooms.
- 140 cm diameter: plenty of room for six and space for a large serving dish in the middle.
The advantage of a round table is that it has no corners and creates no head of the table. The disadvantage is that it wants a wider square area for the same number of people: a 140 cm round table takes more space than a 160 × 90 cm rectangle.
Oval 6-seater table dimensions
An oval combines the capacity of a rectangle with the circulation comfort of a round table. For six people look for 170-180 × 100 cm. As the ends narrow they are hard to sit at, so six people usually sit three and three along the long sides. In open-plan areas shared with the living room this is the shape people bump into least.
From 4 to 6 seats on an extending table
If four people eat every day and six only at gatherings, what you need is not a fixed 160 cm table but an extending one. The real figures from the catalogue:

A round extending table is the most space-saving answer to a 6-seat requirement: closed at 100-120 cm it seats four, and when opened it becomes oval and seats six. Which room will a 6-seater table fit?
It is not the table that has to fit but the table plus the ring of chairs. On every side where people sit you need at least 75 cm for the chair to be pushed back, and 90-110 cm where someone will walk behind it. That gives the room size:

The practical threshold: if the short wall of the room is under 240 cm, a 6-seater will not work — a 90 cm top plus 75 cm on each side already makes 240 cm and leaves nothing for circulation. Aim for 3 metres on the short side for comfortable use, and add another 100 cm if a display cabinet or console will stand against the same wall. Do not imagine the measurement: mark the outline of the table on the floor with masking tape and draw a second line 75 cm outside it. No radiator and no swinging door should fall inside that second line.
Which chairs for a 6-seater table?
- Seat height 45-48 cm. With a table at 75-78 cm this leaves 28-32 cm of knee clearance.
- Top of the armrest at most 68-70 cm. Any higher and the chair will not slide under the table.
- Chair width 45-50 cm, 55-60 cm with arms. Three armchairs barely fit along the long side of a 180 cm table; choose a model without arms.
