Nightstand

A nightstand is the small cabinet with drawers that stands beside the bed. It is the most-used piece in a bedroom: your phone, book, glasses and medicine all live there. Selishome nightstands are chosen together with the fabric and colour of the bedroom set they belong to.

Nightstand dimensions
The nightstands in our catalogue are about 65-70 cm wide, 45-46 cm deep and 39-46 cm high. For models whose dimensions are listed on the product page, you will find them there; if not, ask us on WhatsApp and we will confirm and get back to you the same day.

How to choose the height
The practical rule is that the top of the nightstand should be roughly level with the top of the mattress. A nightstand far below the mattress is awkward to reach while lying down, and one that is too high looks bulky at the bedside. On a storage bed the mattress surface is usually 50-60 cm high, so a 39-46 cm nightstand sits a little below it, which is the right proportion.

How many nightstands you need
In a double bedroom the standard is two, one on each side of the bed. Selishome bedroom sets also come with two nightstands as standard. In a single room or a narrow one, one nightstand is enough; choose which side it goes on according to the door and the position of the socket.

How much space to leave beside the bed
Once the nightstand is in place, there should still be at least 60-70 cm between the bed and the wall so you can walk past comfortably. If your room is narrow, a wall-mounted shelf or a slimmer bedside unit may be a better choice than a nightstand.

As part of a set, or on its own
A nightstand is usually part of a bedroom set, and bought with the set its fabric, colour and handles match the other pieces exactly. With a nightstand bought separately that match is hard to achieve later; wood tones in particular can come out differently from two different makers even when the colour has the same name. Nightstand, dresser and dressing table
A nightstand stands beside the bed, is low and has only a few drawers. A dresser is wider and taller and is the main piece for storing clothes. A dressing table is a mirrored surface you use sitting down. None of them replaces the others; each has a different size and working height.
