Standard Bedroom Set Dimensions: How Many cm Are the Bed and Wardrobe?

Short answer: a standard bedroom set has 6 pieces: a bed with a storage base (160×200), two bedside tables, a chest of drawers (dressing table), its mirror and a pouffe. The dimensions: bedside table 65-70 × 45-50 × 39-46 cm, chest of drawers 156-165 × 46-52 × 87-94 cm, mirror 87 × 101 cm, wardrobe module 85-100 × 62-68 × 215-226 cm. The external size of the bed ranges from 200-310 cm wide and 225-243 cm long depending on the model. The wardrobe is not included in the set; it is chosen separately to suit the width of your room.

The most practical conclusion from this table: the bed + two bedside tables need about 294 cm of wall. In other words, the wall the bed goes against must be at least 3 metres. For the chest of drawers you also need to set aside 165 cm of uninterrupted space on the opposite wall.

The dimensions are taken from the parts lists of models such as the Massimo bedroom set and the Grande bedroom set; on the product pages the size of each piece is stated separately.

The pieces of a bedroom set: names and jobs

In the trade, "bedroom set" brings to mind a complete package including the wardrobe, but in reality the core of the set is fixed. The standard piece names are:

• Bed with a storage base — 1, for a 160×200 cm mattress. The "base" is the storage body under the mattress and the "bed frame" the headboard-bearing surround.
• Bedside table — 2, one on each side of the bed. A low (39-46 cm) body with drawers; the height is so that you can reach it while lying in bed.
• Chest of drawers — 1. A long console with several drawers. With the mirror fitted it works as a dressing table, without it as a console.
• Mirror for the chest — 1 (if the model includes it). Mounted on the wall or on top of the chest.
• Pouffe — 1. The stool placed in front of the chest.
• Wardrobe — not included in the set; chosen separately.

So the piece count comes to 5 or 6 depending on how you count the bodies. Standard bedroom dimensions: the room, or the furniture?

A search for "standard bedroom dimensions" may mean two different things; let us make both clear.

• The standard size of the room: in Turkish homes bedrooms are mostly 3.0-3.5 m wide × 3.5-4.0 m deep, that is 12-14 m². The lower limit is 10.5 m². The detailed calculation and a table of room dimensions by area are in how many m² a bedroom should be.
• The standard size of the furniture: the table above. A 160×200 bed, a 67 cm bedside table, a 165 cm chest, a 100 cm wardrobe module.

The two figures have to be read together: a 12 m² room is "standard", but if its shape does not suit, a standard set still will not fit. A 294 cm bed-and-bedside-table group will not go on a 2.50 m wall. Measure your narrow wall first.

Bed size: 160×200 or 180×200?

160×200 cm is today the most common double size in Turkey and the standard for sets. 180×200 and 200×200 are offered as extras on most models; every 20 cm of growth adds 20 cm to the external width of the bed too. If the bed wall in your room is under 3.2 metres, staying with 160×200 gives a more comfortable result.

Important: the external size of a bed is much larger than the mattress size. On a model with a plain headboard, a 160 bed is 200 cm externally; on a panelled model it can be 240-310 cm. Why is the wardrobe not included in the set?

Because the wardrobe is the piece that varies most from room to room. In one room 4 doors fit, in another 6; one has a flat wall, another needs a corner module. Wardrobe modules join together in blocks 85-100 cm wide and 62-68 cm deep:

The insides of the modules are chosen too: hanging rails, shelves, drawers, trouser racks. Leaving this choice to you rather than attaching a fixed wardrobe to the set both saves you paying for pieces you do not need and produces a wardrobe that fits the room exactly. The three most common measuring mistakes

1. Not allowing for the skirting board. If the back of the wardrobe meets the skirting it will not sit flush against the wall and will stand 2-3 cm proud. Take the wall measurement above the skirting.
2. Forgetting the ceiling height. To stand a 226 cm wardrobe upright you need clearance above; the diagonal of the body is around 235 cm. In low-ceilinged rooms the wardrobe must be assembled in place, piece by piece.
3. Skipping the door opening allowance. A wardrobe door opens 50-60 cm; without that much space in front you cannot reach the drawers. In narrow rooms, sliding or folding doors solve this.
