Is İnegöl Furniture Good Quality? Four Checks That Prove It

Short answer: good furniture shows in four places: the frame (kiln-dried timber in a sofa, body thickness in panel furniture), foam and fabric density, edge banding and joinery, and mechanism quality (hinges, runners, lifting bed bases, extending tables). The furniture city in Türkiye is İnegöl, a district of Bursa, and the reason buying there makes sense is not cheapness but the chance to check all four of those in one place.

Which is the furniture city, and does buying from İnegöl make sense?

In Türkiye the first place that comes to mind for furniture is İnegöl; the district holds a specialised furniture industrial zone, hundreds of manufacturing plants and the supply industry (fabric, foam, fittings, glass, timber) all together. This article is about something different: how do you tell whether the piece in front of you is genuinely good? Because "made in İnegöl" is not on its own a guarantee of quality. The same district holds both places producing to export standard and places working only to sell cheap. The difference is hidden inside the product, and from the outside the two look similar.

Five ways to judge quality in a sofa

1. Ask about the frame. In a good sofa the frame is kiln-dried timber, or timber plus good-quality plywood. A frame made only of particle board works loose within a few years. Ask the seller "what is the frame made of?"; if they cannot answer clearly, that is an answer.
2. Sit down and stand up. Good foam returns to its shape within a few seconds after you rise. If a dip stays, the density is low. Foam below the 30-35 kg/m³ band collapses quickly.
3. Look at the stitching. Are the seams straight where the fabric joins, are the thread ends cleaned, does the pattern align on the arms and back? Upholstery skill shows here more than anywhere.
4. Ask about the fabric's abrasion resistance. On heavily used sofas a high value delays pilling and wear. If there are children or pets at home, ask whether the fabric is stain-resistant too.
5. Rock the sofa. Take it by the arms and move it gently. Creaking and play mean weak joints.

Judging quality in bedroom and dining room furniture

In panel furniture (wardrobes, beds, chests of drawers, tables, consoles) the places to look are different:

• Edge banding: run your finger along the edges of doors and shelves. Cleanly stuck banding with no sharp ridge is good workmanship. Lifting banding takes up moisture and swells.
• Back panel: cheap furniture has thin card tacked to the back. In a good wardrobe the back panel is thick and set into a groove; it gives the body its rigidity.
• Hinges and runners: soft-close hinges and full-extension, concealed-bottom drawer runners are marks of quality. Pull a drawer right out and press down; if it sags, the runner is weak.
• Shelf thickness: long shelves sag in the middle; look at the thickness and whether there is support beneath.
• Bed base: on a lifting base the piston should descend slowly; a piston that drops hard tires within a few years.
• Smell: a heavy chemical smell is a sign of low-grade board. Say that you want low-emission (E1) panels.

How do you verify quality when buying at a distance?

If you cannot go to İnegöl, you have no chance to touch anything. In that case, ask for these:

• A written parts list. How many of each piece is in the set, and which are optional? Buying a "bedroom set" and learning at delivery that the wardrobe was not included is the most common disappointment.
• The dimensions of every piece. Do not proceed with a seller who will not give dimensions.
• Fabric and colour code. Screens mislead on colour; ask for a fabric sample if possible.
• Detail photographs or video. Close-ups of the hinges, stitching, edge banding and mechanisms say a great deal.
• A distance sales agreement, invoice, warranty certificate and 3D Secure payment. Insistence on bank transfer is a warning sign.

Check quality one last time on delivery day

Before the installation team leaves, look at these: are the doors aligned, do the drawers close with even gaps, are there scratches or knocks on the body, do the sofa legs sit flat on the floor, does the extending table mechanism work without catching.
