How to Send Furniture to Another City: Freight, Assembly and Insurance

Short answer: sending furniture to another city is not a standard courier job; bulky items such as sofa sets and bedroom sets are not sent by parcel courier but in vehicles dedicated to furniture, and delivered by a team that assembles them at the address. Three steps reduce the risk almost to zero: take the measurements yourself before ordering, check the item before signing the record, and report any problem with photographs within 24 hours. Selishome ships from İnegöl throughout Turkey, and damage occurring during transport is the company's responsibility.

Why is furniture freight different from ordinary courier delivery?

  • Volume decides, not weight. Furniture is light but enormous; a bedroom set fills most of a vehicle.
  • The vehicle has to reach the door. If there is a narrow street or a vehicle restriction inside the complex, it must be discussed up front.
  • There is assembly at the end. Panel products such as wardrobes, TV units and dining rooms arrive in pieces and are put together in your home.

Is buying furniture from another city risky?

The real risk is not where you think. The most common problem when buying at a distance is not being defrauded or breakage in transit, but the item not fitting into the home. When you buy remotely nobody comes and measures your home; giving the measurements falls to you.

The second risk is a gap in expectations: a fabric colour can look one way on screen and another in the light of your room. The solution is simple — ask for a swatch sample and extra photographs. To assess the seller, the checklist in is buying furniture online safe will do the job.

Which measurements should be taken before delivery?

Measurements before delivery: door width, stair turn, lift internal size and floor.
Measurements before delivery: door width, stair turn, lift internal size and floor.
  • Building and flat doors: the clear width between the frames with the leaf open, and the threshold allowance on steel doors.
  • Lift: the internal car dimensions and also the width of the lift door. The door is usually narrower than the car.
  • Staircase: the narrowest width and the turning space on the landing. What stops furniture is the turn, not the steps.
  • Which floor and whether there is a lift: this must always be stated when ordering.

Compare the measurements with the item's narrowest cross-section; if the difference is under 5 cm, ask whether the item can be dismantled. The method is in will furniture fit through the door and the lift. In buildings with no lift, items are carried up to the third floor if the staircase allows; if it does not, an external hoist may be needed. The terms are on the Shipping & Delivery page.

Who does the assembly, and how long does it take?

At Selishome, installation is carried out by the company's own team, by appointment. This is not only a matter of convenience: for structural problems arising after assembly to be covered by the guarantee, the installation must have been done by the authorised team and the record signed. Damage arising on an item you had assembled by someone else falls outside the cover.

The time varies by product; an upholstered seating group is finished quickly, a wardrobe with many modules takes longer. Your preparation: clear the room, remove obstacles from the corridor and stairs, and decide in advance where the item will stand. Someone must be at home at the delivery time — the driver calls after setting off to confirm the address and time, and if nobody is at the address the cost of redelivery is the customer's.

Delivery-day checklist

Checking on delivery day: scratches, dents and missing parts are written on the record as the packaging is opened.
Checking on delivery day: scratches, dents and missing parts are written on the record as the packaging is opened.
StageWhat to do
When the vehicle arrivesDo not let anything be unloaded before counting the pieces; compare with the order list.
Before the packaging is openedLook at the outside of the packaging: any dents, tears or damp? If so, photograph it before opening.
As the packaging is openedHave it opened while the team is with you; record the opening on your phone.
After assemblyAre the doors aligned, do the drawers close evenly, do the mechanisms work without catching?
Before signingIf everything is fine, sign the record; if not, do not sign without adding a note.

↔ Scroll the table sideways to see all of it.

The record has a second consequence: once installation is complete and the record signed, the right of withdrawal can no longer be used. If you are considering a return, say so before signing. The whole flow is in our order, delivery and installation guide.

How does the process work if there is damage?

  • Photograph it. Take shots that clearly show the damage and, if possible, the outside of the packaging.
  • Add a note to the record. Write "received damaged" on the delivery record; that single sentence makes every following step easier.
  • Report within 24 hours. Get in touch by email or on the WhatsApp line with the photographs; the details are on our contact page.

For damaged items, replacement is carried out within two weeks on average, depending on stock. In addition, furniture products are covered by a 2-year guarantee from the invoice date; the guarantee covers material and workmanship faults arising from production, and does not cover ordinary wear or impact damage. Being in another city does not change the guarantee; the claim is made through the same channel and, if needed, an on-site inspection is arranged.

Why does the delivery time vary?

The most common misconception is that the time comes from the distance. In fact the time is set mainly by production, not the journey. Average times: about 2 weeks for stock items, about 6-7 weeks for made-to-order production, and about 8 weeks for special production. Distance does not add much on top of that; it mostly affects which day the dispatch falls on. If your moving date is fixed, plan backwards from the item with the longest lead time. We set out the factors that stretch the time — production load, fabric supply, the dispatch schedule — one by one in why furniture delivery takes longer. The current terms are on the frequently asked questions page.

7 questions to ask the showroom before ordering

  • Is this item in stock or made to order? What is the estimated delivery date?
  • Are transport and installation to my city included, and if not will the cost appear at order confirmation?
  • What is the item's narrowest cross-section in centimetres, and can it be dismantled?
  • In a building with no lift, up to which floor is it carried?
  • Who does the assembly — your own team, or a local craftsman?
  • Do you send fabric swatches, and can I have extra photographs?
  • If it arrives damaged, how does the process work and how long does it take to resolve?

Ordering to another city from a seller who answers these seven clearly is safe. If you do not know where to start, our guide where to buy furniture compares the channels. The collected answers to what we are asked most on shipping, payment and returns are in frequently asked questions about Selishome.

Can furniture be sent by courier?

Bulky items are not sent by parcel courier but in vehicles suited to furniture transport, and are assembled at the address by a team.

On orders above a certain amount, transport and installation are covered by the company; below that, the cost is shown at order confirmation according to the delivery city. Confirm the current thresholds on the Shipping & Delivery page.

Who covers damage that occurs during delivery?

The transport process is the company's responsibility, and damage occurring in transit is covered. The conditions: photograph the damage, add a note to the record, and report within 24 hours.
