Will a Bedroom Set Fit a 10-12 m² Room? (Plans in Actual cm)

Short answer: yes, a bedroom set will fit into a 10 m² room and into a 12 m² room — but not the same set in both. What decides it is not the floor area but the length of the wall the bed will go against and the depth left opposite it. The thresholds are these: a 160×200 bed with two bedside tables needs 300 cm of uninterrupted wall, and a wardrobe with hinged doors needs at least 150 cm of depth from the foot of the bed. If those two numbers work, the room does the job even at 10 m².

Take two measurements first: wall length and depth

Furniture is laid out against walls, not against floor area; a 12 m² square room and a 12 m² narrow room produce different plans. Take the tape and write down three numbers: the clear length of the headboard wall, the distance from that wall to the opposite one, and the uninterrupted stretches of wall left between the door and the windows. The wardrobe can only go into one of those. For which class your room falls into, see how many m² an average bedroom is.

Bedroom set dimensions: the numbers to build the calculation on

The values below are the common dimensions of Selishome sets; the full list of pieces is in bedroom set dimensions.

Three critical totals come out of this:

  • 160 bed + 2 bedside tables = 294 cm. If the wall is under 300 cm, you will be giving up one bedside table.
  • 180 bed + 2 bedside tables = 314 cm. If you want 180×200, the bed wall must be at least 320 cm; before deciding, see the comparison in bed sizes.
  • 200 + 62 + 90 ≈ 352 cm. The depth cost of putting a hinged wardrobe at the foot of the bed.

Circulation rules: empty space is furniture too

Circulation space is furniture too: if 60 cm is not left beside the bed, the set does not fit the room.
Circulation space is furniture too: if 60 cm is not left beside the bed, the set does not fit the room.
  • 60 cm along the long side of the bed. Comfortable is 70-75 cm.
  • 70 cm at the foot. The main route turns here; at a push it can drop to 55 cm.
  • 90 cm in front of a hinged wardrobe. The door sweeps 45-50 cm, and the rest is where you stand.
  • 60 cm in front of a sliding wardrobe. The biggest gain in a small room.
  • The door's sweep is 80-90 cm. If the door opens inwards, no cabinet can go into that arc.

A bedroom set in a 10 m² room: the 300 × 330 cm plan

At 9.9 m², this is the real plan anyone searching for "10 m2 room dimensions" runs into:

  • The bed fills 294 cm of the 300 cm wall, leaving 6 cm in total at the two sides.
  • With the headboard, the bed takes about 208 cm of depth; 122 cm is left.
  • If you put a 62 cm deep wardrobe at the foot, 60 cm remains in front of it: not enough for hinged doors, just enough for sliding doors.

Conclusion: in a 10 m² room you can set up the bed + two bedside tables + a 200 cm sliding wardrobe; a chest of drawers does not go into this plan. The second route: give up one bedside table and move a hinged wardrobe to the side wall, past the line of the bed.

What fits into 12 m²? The difference between 300 × 400 and 350 × 350

  • 300 × 400 cm: the bed wall only just covers 294 cm. 192 cm of depth is left, so there is 130 cm of clearance in front of a 4-door wardrobe at the foot. But on the side wall only 130 cm is left for the chest of drawers: a classic 165 cm chest will not fit, so a narrow dressing table is needed.
  • 350 × 350 cm: there is 56 cm more on the bed wall; a 200 cm wardrobe goes at the foot and a 150 cm band is left beside it for the chest of drawers. This is the only way the full set fits.

Choose the number of wardrobe doors by the wall you have allocated, not by how many clothes you own; the module logic is in wardrobe dimensions and interior layout. If the wall is an in-between size like 250 cm, a single-door module is added next to two double-door modules.

Why is a long, narrow room an advantage? 270 × 450 cm

A narrow room looks like a loss at first, but with the right plan it is the most efficient type. The bed and a single bedside table (227 cm) fit on the 270 cm headboard wall. You put the wardrobe not at the foot but on the long side wall, past where the bed ends: there is a 240 cm empty band there, and a 200 cm wardrobe fits comfortably.

What do you give up in a small room, and what replaces it?

In a small room the chest of drawers is dropped for a storage base: the same storage, no floor space.
In a small room the chest of drawers is dropped for a storage base: the same storage, no floor space.
  • The pouffe and the mirror go first. The mirror moves onto the wardrobe door, which also makes the room look wider; mirrored and glass-fronted bedroom sets are chosen in small rooms for exactly this reason.
  • Then the chest of drawers goes. Its job is done by the wardrobe's drawer module; one tall wardrobe always saves more space than two separate bodies.
  • If necessary, the second bedside table goes. A narrow wall-mounted shelf or a hanging lamp takes its place.
  • The bed is the last to be reduced, and only in size. A 160 mattress instead of 180 gives back 20 cm on the wall.

The cleanest way to get the lost storage back is a storage base: under a 160×200 bed there is 3.2 m² of space that takes up no extra room in the plan. In detail in storage bed or normal bed.

5 typical mistakes when measuring

  • Measuring the wall at one point. Measure at three points and write down the smallest; in an older building a 2-3 cm difference is normal.
  • Rounding to "the room is 3 by 4". Thinking a 294 cm wall is 300 leaves the bedside table outside when the set arrives.
  • Not noting the distance to the door and window edges. The window edge decides how far the wardrobe can come; draw the door's opening direction on the sketch.
  • Forgetting the radiator, air conditioning and sockets. The wardrobe must not block the radiator, and a few centimetres must be left behind it.
  • Skipping the ceiling height. If a 226 cm module is to be stood up in the room, the ceiling must be at least 234 cm; in a room with a suspended ceiling, ask before ordering.

And there is a measurement outside the room: getting the furniture into the home. For the building door, lift and stair turn see will furniture fit through the door and the lift.

If the room is a teenager's, the calculation changes a little: a single bed, a desk and a wardrobe all have to fit into the same room. We gathered the bed, desk and wardrobe dimensions in teen room dimensions and choices.

Once the wall lengths are on paper, you can look through the models in the bedroom category. Because the wardrobe is chosen separately from the set, you have flexibility in a small room: the Rams 4-door wardrobe range also has two-door and corner modules. If you already have a base, a frame such as the Rams bed frame without a base will do the job.

Frequently asked questions

How many centimetres is a 12 m2 room?

The most common equivalents are 300 × 400 cm and 350 × 350 cm. Both are around 12 m² but the outcome differs: in the near-square one there is room for a chest of drawers, in the narrow one there is not.

Will a double bed fit in a 10 m² room?

It will. A 300 cm wall takes a 160×200 bed and two bedside tables. The difficulty is not the bed but the clearance in front of the wardrobe; sliding doors should be chosen there.

Where do you put the wardrobe in a small bedroom?

In order of priority: the foot wall, then the side wall past the line of the bed, and last of all behind the door. The window wall and in front of the radiator are ruled out.
